2nd Lt Claude Rothell Jr. graduated from Saluda High School where he starred as full back for the local team. He was graduated from Clemson College in 1943 where he was a member of the Clemson Tigers Football Team.He enlisted at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on 3 August 1943 and was sent to the Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning where he completed his training in December 1943. He was sent overseas in April 1944.
