More information

The 2nd Battalion was assigned to secure the bridge over de Moselle River at Flavigny but suffered heavy losses due to enemy small arms and artillery fire, causing the bridge to be destroyed. Also attempts to cross the river by boat were unsuccessful. It is likely that Pvt Farmer was one of the casualties, either of the artillery barrages or of the failed crossing attempt.

He was reported missing in action on 11 September 1944.

Pvt Farmer was officially declared dead one day and one year after the day he was reported missing in action.
