More information
Pfc Harold S. Clifton was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for his actions in the day of his death. The citation cited: "On 9 January 1945, at Rittershoffen, France, when five enemy tanks attempted to outflank our positions, Pvt Clifton remained at his post on a 57-mm anti-tank gun in spite of heavy enemy machine gun and 88-mm fire, as a result of which two enemy tanks were put out of action. He was killed by a direct hit on his gun".Source of information: Peter Schouteten, www.abmc.gov, www.wwiimemorial.com, www.ancestry.com - Headstone and Interment Record / 1910/1930/1940 Census / U.S. WWII Draft Cards Young Men, www.findagrave.com
