2nd Lt Joseph F. Wilson graduated from St Francis Academy and was a clerk, employed by the Wilson Sporting Goods Company.

He joined the Regular Army on 18 February 1941. He was sent overseas in October 1942.

Lt Wilson was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously for his actions on 16 December 1944. The citation cited: for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company M, 3rd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at Kayersberg, France, on 16 December 1944. 2nd Lt Wilson's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 3rd Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
