S/Sgt Merco Bertig attended Elders Ridge High School for four years and was employed at the Elwell Parker Electric before he enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 9 February 1943.He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his chest.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
