Sgt Clifford R. Johnson graduated from Beatrice High School and was an architect before he joined the National Guard in Beatrice, Nebraska on 23 December 1940. He was sent overseas on 26 May 1944.As C Company was crossing the Blies river in assault boats, the boat in which Clifford was riding struck an obstacle in the river. The boat capsized and due to very swift waters, he drowned.
