2nd Lt James H. Copeland attended high school for one year and was a driver before he enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina on 15 January 1943.During the attack on 4 January 1945, 2nd Lt James H. Copeland never returned from a mission. He was reported missing in action on 5 January 1945. His body was found on 13 January and this became his official date of death. His status changed from MIA to KIA on the Battle Casualty Report of 16 January 1945.
He is remembered at the Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sandy Run, Calhoun County, South Carolina.
