More information

Pfc Henry G. Brecht Jr. was a laboratory technician before he enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 18 February 1943.

His regiment was assigned to take over a town and while crossing a field he was wounded in the arm and leg by shell fragments. He was taken in to a French house where his wounds were treated. During the attack the medical men treated the wounds which were very slight, according to the report of the medics who cared for him. When Cpl Keithan approached the members of the medical unit concerning the condition of Pfc Brecht, they stated that he was positively alive. However after emergency treatment was given to him his unit had to move on and he stayed behind in the French house where civilians cared for him. Shortly afterwards a unit of the German army swept through that section and the belief is that Pfc Brecht was either captured by the Germans or was killed.
