More information

Sgt Jerome Pritikin was well-known in the borough. He came to New Brunswick at the age of 9 and lived with Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Schiff on Gatzmer avenue. He attended Jamesburg schools and later the vocational school.
He then made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Baumgartner on Sherman street. He joined the National Guard in 1941. When the United States entered the war he enlisted in a paratrooper unit. He went overseas in November, 1944. He was wounded in this unit. Later he was placed in the infantry. He was wounded again, with the 310th Infantry, but again returned to action.
Mrs. Baumgartner received several souvenirs from various countries in Europe, where he was located. The latest she received was a leather belt with the inscription "Godd Mit Uns" on the buckle, the leather pouch that goes with the belt and a small bayonet and sheath. These were received from Germany where the young man died in battle.
