S/Sgt John J. Noto enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 20 October 1942."Silver Creek, Aug. 17 - Mr. and Mrs. James Noto of Hickory St., have received word from the government that their son, Pfc. John J. Noto, 22 is making satisfactory recovery in a general hospital in England from injuries sustained July 12 while fighting in France. The parents were informed, the Purple Heart has been presented to their son. John Noto entered the service Nov. 3, 1942, and has been overseas five months. Injuries are to his left shoulder and leg"
S/Sgt. John J. Noto, died on November 21, 1944 of wounds suffered three days earlier, according to word received by his mother. She also received a letter from Capt. Charles G. Brandt, personnel officer of S/Sgt Noto's organization, stating that he was killed while advancing beyond a fort which the rifle company of which he was a member, had captured. The officer indicated the high esteem in which S/Sgt. Noto was held by his fellow soldiers and officers and said that following funeral services, the body had been interred in an American cemetery in eastern France.
