Pvt David L. Hughes worked for the Lehigh Navigation Coal Companyenlisted in Allentown, Pennsylvania on 10 November 1943 and was sent overseas in June 1944.

He was first buried at Frankfurt Mausoleum.

Pvt David L. Hughes' remains have been recovered, identified and interred at the Ardennes American Cemetery. His name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial.
