Pvt David L. Hughes enlisted in Allentown, Pennsylvania on 10 November 1943 and went overseas in June to serve with the 90th infantry division in General Patton's Third army. He was a member of First Baptist church in Lansford and employee by Lehigh Navigation Coal Company.

He attended high school for 4 years.

He was first buried at Frankfurt Mausoleum Grave 330.

Pvt David L. Hughes' remains have been recovered, identified and interred at the Ardennes American Cemetery. His name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial.
