S/Sgt Francisco Rivera enlisted at Fort Sam Houston, Texas on 20 September 1943.

He was wounded in action by artillery shell fragments in his neck and fingers in July 1944. In July-August 1944, he suffered a wound and infection to his hand caused by a hand grenade explosion. In February 1945 he was fatally wounded to his abdomen, abdominal wall and pelvis from artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Foy, Belgium.
