Pfc. Charles R. Whiple Jr was a graduate of Putney (Vt,) High School and had just completed his sophomore year at Brown University at the time of his enlistment.

He enlisted in the Air Corps in June, 1942, served as trainer instructor at Chanute Field Ill, until he assigned to an ASTP course at the University of Illinois. He gave infantry training at Fort Leonard Wood and San Luis Obispo, was sent overseas last September and assigned to an infantry unit of the Seventh Army.
