S/Sgt Goode S. Wier Jr. attended college for three years before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Fort Sam, Texas on 25 January 1943.

He was officially declared dead one year and one day after he was reported missing in action. At that time his unit was fighting in the vicinity of Haguenau, France.
