1st Lt Alton R. Kalkwarf graduated from Reitz High School and was attending Lockyear’s Business College before he joined the National Guard in Evansville, Indiana on 17 January 1941. He was sent overseas in September 1944.On one photo Lt Hartford Salee shows Lt Alton Kalkwarf (on the left) the proper way to put on a gas mask.
