T/5 James R. Manganello attended high school for four years and was a truck driver before he enlisted in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on 23 May 1942.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his chest.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
