Pvt Anthony S. Bednard attended high school for two years and was a mechanic and repairman of motor vehicles before he enlisted in Jamaica, New York on 31 March 1941.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his arm.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
