Pfc Joseph E. Zukowski attended high school for one year and was employed at the Underwood Elliot Fisher Company before he enlisted in New Haven, Connecticut on 7 December 1943.

He was killed by small arms fire in his chest.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
