Pvt John F. Schilling graduated from the Immaculate Conception Parochial School and from Boys Central High School with the class of 1943. He was attending Carroll College when he enlisted on 22 November 1943.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.

He is remembered at the Mountain View Cemetery in Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana.
