Pfc Joseph R. Theriault attended high school for two years and was employed at the Metropolitan Warehouse before he enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 19 September 1942.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his leg.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
