Pvt Joseph S. Morris attended high school for two years and was employed at the Atlantic Refining Company before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 31 January 1944.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
