Pvt Albert A. Smith was a post-graduate before he joined the Regular Army on 4 August 1939.

He was officially declared dead one year and one day after he was reported missing in action. At that time his unit was fighting in the vicinity of Bezange-la-Grande, France.

He is also remembered at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri.
