Pfc Walter M. Moorhead Jr. was a graduate from Kings Mountain High School and attended North Carolina State College for one year. He was employed at the U.S. Rubber Company before he enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina on 25 February 1943. He was sent overseas on 25 August 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
