Pvt David E. Sherry was a semiskilled painter before he enlisted in Fort Hayes Columbus, Ohio on 28 January 1941 and he was sent overseas in August 1944.

He was seriously wounded when he was taken prisoner on 13 November 1944 and he died in Germany in a POW Camp. The exact location is not known.
