Pfc Alvin W. Dickmeier attended Decatur High School for four years and was a general industry clerk at the A W Cash Company before he enlisted in Peoria, Illinois on 13 January 1943. He was sent overseas in September 1944.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his back and tibia.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
