Pfc Walter J. Marshall attended high school for two years and was employed at the Marinship Corporation before he enlisted in San Francisco, California on 12 November 1943.

He was killed by an artillery shell blast.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
