Pvt Vincent H. Smith attended high school for two years and was a welder and flame cutter before he enlisted in New Orleans, Louisiana on 28 January 1943.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments on his spine and trunk.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
