2nd Lt Harry J. Vanderhoff Jr. attended Hornell High School for four years and was a railroad clerk at the Erie Railroad Accounting Bureau before he enlisted in Rochester, New York on 21 May 1942. He was sent overseas in September 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
