Pvt Robert L. Hitchcock attended high school for four years and was employed at the Lumen Bearing Company before he enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 12 August 1942.

He was killed by small arms fire.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
