Pvt Harry Gaillard was a skilled miner and mining-machine operator before he enlisted in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania on 8 May 1944.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments to his buttock and hip.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
