S/Sgt Francis G. Foody attended high school for four years and was employed at the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 7 April 1942.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments to his leg.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
