T/Sgt Wasyl W. Shaban attended high school for three years and was a nursery operator and flower grower before he joined the National Guard in Holyoke, Massachusetts on 16 January 1941.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his stomach.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
