Pfc Robert M. West was employed at the Savage Arms Incorporated before he enlisted in Springfield, Massachusetts on 12 March 1941.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.

He is also remembered at the Fairview Cemetery, Chicopee, Hampden County, Massachusetts.
