Sgt Roy E. Buchanan was employed at Loop's barber shop before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve early in 1941. He had previously served in the Regular Army for four years in the mid-1930s, being stantioned in Panama.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
