Pvt Lewis B. Clayton attended high school for four years and was employed at the Fairchild Aircraft Corporation before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Baltimore, Maryland on 19 May 1942.

He was reported wounded in action in the vicinity of Albestroff, France and died on 22 November 1944. The exact location where he died is not known.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
