Sgt Joseph C. Hajec attended high school for two years and was employed in the manufacture of leather before he enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 28 January 1942. He was sent overseas in August 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
