Pfc Francis J. Alexander attended high school for one year and was employed at the National Biscuit Company before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 16 February 1943.

He died in a field hospital to the effects of a gunshot in his tibia.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
