Pfc Walfrid E. Osterberg attended high school for one year and was employed by the Hedstrom-Union Company before he enlisted in Worcester, Massachusetts on 4 March 1941.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
