Pfc James H. Basquil attended college for three years before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 22 March 1943.

He was wounded by mortar shell fragments on 8 November 1944 and he died on 12 November 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
