Pvt Russell G. Uren attended high school for four years and was employed at the National Youth Administration before he enlisted in Kalamazoo, Michigan on 6 April 1943.

He died in a field hospital to the effects of small arms fire in his intestines.

He is also remembered at the Iron River Cemetery in Iron River, Iron County, Michigan.
