Pfc Sven R. F. Chilstedt was employed as a mail carrier at the U.S. Post Office before he enlisted in Baltimore, Maryland on 26 August 1942.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: His company had been pinned down by intense enemy fire when with five other enlisted men and his platoon officer, he moved into a woods to knock out German machine-gun positions. In the course of this action, he let a bayonet charge against a dugout behind one of the machine-gun positions and was killed by enemy fire.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
