S/Sgt Jake P. Carter was a farmhand.

He enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina on 5 March 1943.

In May 1944, he was reported wounded in action in Italy. He was hospitalized for wounds at his forehand and the frontal region, caused by artillery shell fragments. He was discharged from the hospital in June 1944.

From August to September 1944, he was hospitalized for a wound in his shoulder, caused by small arms fire.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.
