Pfc Elmer L. Conaway attended high school for four years and was a shipping clerk, employed by the Barman and Sunshine Crown Upholstering Company, before he enlisted at Fort Mac Arthur, California on 16 March 1942.

He was killed by small arms fire in the thorax and leg.
