Pfc Frank F. Montagano graduated from Mark Twain Junior High School in 1939 and Roosevelt High School in 1942 before he enlisted in New York City, New York on 12 March 1943.

In January 1944, in Italy, he was wounded by artillery shell fragments which earned him his first Purple Heart..

He was killed in action by small arms fire.
