Pfc William F. Hoppy attended Lynch High School before he enlisted in Albany, New York on 6 November 1943.

He is interred next to his friend Pfc Frank A. Corbin Jr. who served with the 7th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division and who was killed in action on 5 February 1945.
