Pfc Martin J. Duffy attended George Washington High School and was employed by the Laudermilk Pharmacy Incorporated, before he enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 27 March 1943. He was sent overseas in September 1943.

In March 1944, he was wounded in Italy by an artillery blast.

On 27 October 1944, he was severely wounded in action in France by small arms fire in the colon. He died of his wounds on 12 November. The exact location where he died is not known.
