2nd Lt Renfrew A. Yerxa graduated from Bangor High School in 1939 where he took an active part in dramatics.

He enlisted in Bangor, Maine on 2 November 1942 and received his commission at Fort Benning, Georgia in May 1943.

He was sent overseas in November 1943.
