Pfc Stephen I. Nowak attended high school for two years and was a routeman employed at Zuinn Dairies.

He enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 10 February 1942 and was sent overseas on 1 January 1944.

He was killed in action by artillery shell fragments in the thorax and back.
