Pfc Gilman M. Sirois was a farmhand before he enlisted in Brewer, Maine on 17 December 1943. He completed his basic training at Camp Devens, Massachusetts.

He landed in Italy and took part in the Southern France Invastion, where he was wounded in the leg. After a month in a convalescent hospital, he returned to service.

His last letter to his mother was written on 23 January 1945. In it, he described how he and other soldiers were living in a cellar in a bombed out town with several priests, nuns and refugees.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in the thorax.
